How much do Americans know about Scotland?
July 4th, 2009I was just wondering, as last summer I went on holiday with a group of Scottish girls to Switzerland, and we meet some American teens.
They asked questions like “So is Scotland a town in England?” (answer:NO)
“OMG your English is so good!”(english is the spoken language in Scotland)
“Do you wear kilts all the time?” (answer:NO)
I was just wondering if these thoughts were widespread throughout America?
What do you think of Scotland and the Scots? There’s some pretty bad steriotyping of the Scottish, but it’s a great place to live, I love it.
Does anyone know what the weather is like in Cancun, Mexico end August, beginning of September?
July 2nd, 2009Im off on holiday to Cancun 27th August for 2 weeks and have read on the internet about the rainy season/hurricane season. I am a little nervy about hurricanes etc and wondering if anyone has been around the same time and can tell me what the weather should be like! I assumed it would be sunny and hot. (hope so, need to top up the Scottish tan) :@)
What are your opinions about all the racial things going on in America?
July 2nd, 2009Okay, so I’m a German American, also known as “white”.
My friend was whining about how why people don’t get half of the privileges blacks get, but techinally, we do and don’t know it. I’m half German and 1/4 Dutch and 1/4 Scottish, so I get 3 national holidays and several cultural societies and scholarships. But why would they give me a scholarship because my great-great grandmother came to New York in 1901? I mean, we all had to get here some-how, right? So that means that they have to give the scholarship to everyone, right? African American is the biggest racial group, because us white can be Irish, French, Boer, Scandinavian, Swiss, Albanian, Polish, British, Welch, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Russian, ANY country in Europe, and “African” kind of covers every African country.
But that’s just one point, there’s several others about African being treated horribly and the scholarship for the African Americas can be for the fact that maybe they can’t get a break and need money to get they’re daughter and/or son to medical school, or law school, or whatever he and/or she wants to be, but they can’t pay for it because of the hard times they family wne through in the 60s. That’s one reason why they have a African American scholarship.
But how come most blacks tend to think that white hate them, like what Kanye West said, he said “White don’t care about blacks” when that’s not true! So blacks can be just as ****** as white, but black can say all the racial comments on whtie like they are joking, but whites can’t about blacks (not like we EVER should, but still). I was just wondering why blacks can say mean these about whites and make fun of us, but do blacks find it insulting when whites act black and make mimick blacks? Are the racial things blacks say about whites the same whites say about blacks? And do blacks have the right to day these things about white because we treated them terrible for so long? I find most racial joke blacks make about whites hilarous and don’t mind them at all, but what about other whites? I just want to hear you opinions.
Question about Scottish employment law?
July 2nd, 2009There is currently a rumour at my company that the senior management intend to try to force a few long-term employees, who are employed on better terms than those who started after mid-2003, to either agree to sign a current standard contract or resign. This would mean accepting a salary cut of about £1500, fewer holidays, and a few other changes resulting in poorer terms and conditions.
My questions are:
Is this legal?
Would this constitute grounds to claim constructive dismissal?
If someone was sacked for refusing to either sign or resign, could they make a claim for unfair dismissal?
My employer’s head office is based in England but the office concerned is in Scotland.

Caravan Holidays In Scotland
July 1st, 2009Caravans offer the most cost effective way of viewing the wonders of Scotland. Whether towing your own caravan and pitching on one of Scotland’s many caravan parks, or hiring a beautiful static caravan, it’s just like a home from home. With all your own home amenities, your own car parking space, green area around the caravan, you have the most important values - choice and freedom. Whether you want to cook a meal or eat out, go out or early and come back late, it’s completely up to you. Furthermore, if you’re using a touring caravan, you could have a different view of Scotland every morning. How does waking up at the shore of the world famous Loch Ness one morning sound, followed by looking out of your window and seeing the breathtaking views of Ailsa Craig another?
Often referenced as one of the most beautiful countries in the world, Scotland has always been renowned for its stunning, natural beauty. Its breathtaking views of the many Loch’s and Glen’s have been the back drop to years of photographs and it’s famous whisky has been warming chests since 1494.
Scotland’s biggest city, Glasgow is famous for its stunning architecture, historical museums and without a doubt, its welcoming people. The endless shopping facilities and leisure amenities will keep even the most passionate shopper busy.Situated an hours drive from Glasgow is Edinburgh, the Scottish capital. One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Glasgow has a world famous castle and is renowned for its celebrations. The Edinburgh Tattoo in August is made up of several festivals and is visited from all over the world, whilst its Hogmanay celebration on New Years Eve is rivalled only by the celebrations in Time Square, New York.
Head North and you’ll be taken into wilderness of the North-West Highlands, just south of the stunning Argyll. Move over to the North East and you’ll be greeted with beautiful Perthshire (which in the summer plays host to the famous ‘T in the Park’ music festival), the high Grampians and lowland Aberdeenshire. The area is dominated my mountainous terrain and is perfect for those wishing to see the true beauty of the country on a caravan holidays in Scotland.
The South of Scotland is filled with rolling hills, lush, green forests and memorable old market towns. Local towns in Dumfries and Galloway are heavily steeped in history and tradition. Winding streets and pebbled lanes make southern Scotland a definite place to visit.
The Scottish tourist board has invested millions of pounds over recent years into Scottish tourism and in particular, its caravan parks, making now a better time than ever to take a caravan holiday in Scotland.

When can a person use a gun in America?
June 30th, 2009Well we all know here in Britain how stupid your firearms laws are. I am off to Vegas sometime in July and have heard that many people openly carry guns there. I want to know, even though it is legal in most parts of America to carry a gun, in what circumstances can a person actually use the gun and not go to jail for it? If a person is engaged in a fight and happens to be losing the fight, can he pull out his gun and shoot the other guy? If you are a shop owner and you catch someone stealing from the shop, can you pull out the gun and shoot them? I also wanted to know, if a person runs from the police can the police shoot them? I always remember hearing a story of a drunken Scottish man on holiday in Vegas who, after discovering he was lost after a night out on his way back to the hotel, he knocked on someones back door, and the home owner, thinking he was a burglar, shot him dead.
