Bitter towards my new SILs?

SassyLassie asked:

I think I just need to commiserate. I got married last month and worked so hard to create a romantic ceremony. I got married in a very small 14th century chapel in a Scottish castle with 150 candles and a soloist. I didn’t feel this was the atmosphere for babies ( 1.5 nephew and 7 months niece). I wanted no babies at all but my now husband didn’t want to cause a fight and his family wanted the whole family there. So I bowed down and now regret it. Even though the family knew my concerns and I spoke to my inlaws and the parents several times before the wedding, the ceremony was ruined for me. I was promised that the first sign of noise from one of them that the parents would move to the back of the chapel (they were in the first pew) about a foot from the wedding party. Well, they made noise throughout the whole ceremony, played with toys, yelled, talked, and the parents Shooshes. Plus they made noise throughout the solo and the parents or grandparents never saw the need to remove them. When my husband told them how hurt I was all they say is it was a family day. It was not, it was my wedding ceremony not a Family Fun Day. Has anyone had a similar experience and how did you handle it? I am so hurt that they didn’t have enough respect for me and my hard work and not be so self absorbed with the babies. Even though everyone said the ceremony was beautiful their selfishness ruined it for me.
No, never got an apology

What’s your favorite Halloween joke?

Wolfeblayde asked:

This is my favorite:

An American traveler decided to tour an ancient Scottish castle. The tour guide was excellent, but all the long, dark corridors and shadowy corners were really making the American nervous. By the end of the tour, he was really jumpy and he turned to the guide with a huge sigh of relief.

“The castle is beautiful, ” he told his guide, “but I kept looking over my shoulder, thinking that a ghost was going to pop out of one of those rooms at any minute.”

“Dinna fash yourself,” the guide shook his head. “In all the years I’ve worked here, I’ve never seen even as much as a wee ghostie.”

“That’s good,” the American smiled. ‘And just how long have you worked here?”

“Oh. . .about three hundred years.”

Translation from Latin to English please?

Elaine T asked:

Inscription above a door in a Scottish castle reads UT SCRIPTURA SONAT FINIS NON PUGNA CORONAT
My research so far indicates that this is a quote from Rhetorica Novissima 5.11.1.3
The full context reads as follows:
Quisquis vincatur aut vincat, fine probatur. Ut scriptura sonat, finis non pugna coronat. Non debetis igitur ante prolationem sententie gloriari, quia spe cassari potestis et confidentia vestra privari.
My Latin is too rusty to make sense of it, so any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Babies and young children are more comfortably accommodated in holiday cottage as parents don’t feel the pressure of other families (example in resort or hotel) who don’t have small children. The realities of guests on holiday feel being at home together, frequently with generations in a larger house which brings a lot of different ambiance to their holiday. COTTAGES & CASTLES, the Scottish holiday lettings firm, has bought fellow leisure company Arran HideAways. The acquisition will add 140 properties to Cottages & Castles’ stable, transforming the company into the largest self-catering holiday letting firm in the country with more than 500 sites.

No figure has been revealed, however it is expected to boost Cottages & Castles’ turnover by as much as 30% to more than £3m. Arran HideAways has already secured 1,114 weeks of accommodation occupancy for October 2008 to October 2009. This number is expected to increase as Cottages & Castles opens up each property to a wider market audience of potential holidaymakers.

Cottages & Castles manager Sue Bourne said: “Arran is very much a second home island and is a popular holiday destination with huge potential on a national and international level. Given the current economic downturn, coupled with more people holidaying at home, we believe Arran is set to become the place to holiday for 2009.”

Arran HideAways will continue to manage the self-catering properties on the Isle of Arran. It will also run guest services on behalf of Cottages & Castles.

Credit crunch conscious festive revellers are booking up Scottish castles and country mansions as they are now one of the most affordable options for spending holidays, according to Cottages & Castles Ltd, Scotland’s largest specialist holiday letting agency.

An indulgent festive getaway need not be as expensive as you may think, with people paying as little as ?22 per head per night to stay in some of the most spectacular rural properties in Scotland.

Cottages and Castles’ fabulous range of properties for rent are perfect for those looking for an idyllic Christmas or Hogmanay, particularly large groups of friends seeking a stunning castle or mansion to house a festive Highland Ceilidh.

The firm has advised that it still has some spectacular properties available for Christmas and New Year.

Sue Bourne, Manager for Cottages and Castles, said: “We have experienced a steady influx of bookings for properties over the festive period as more people have decided to stay at home. Scotland is a very popular destination over Christmas and New Year with the average price per head for renting out one of our properties far cheaper than a holiday abroad.

“Larger properties such as county mansions and castles have been in great demand with large groups looking to host their own Hogmanay parties. There are still some fantastic properties in spectacular locations throughout Scotland available to suit all requirements and budgets.”

Law Castle in West Kilbride, Ayrshire and Persie House in Perthshire are two of the best value castles and large houses still available.
