Lizzie J asked:

I know Wales is a rugby nation. And in England football is more popular, but rugby still has a good following.
Just wondering about Ireland and Scotland.
Thanks

There’s myself, and my parents – we come from manchester in England.
We are absolutely dying to get out of the rat race and rough area that surrounds us, and so we’re planning on upping sticks and moving to Scotland – question is this;
Do scottish people have an issue with English people?
We’ve heard a lot about this, and i’m wondering if it would prove to be a problem.

Why Not Sample Some Scottish Cuisine!

Thousands of people visit Scotland each year and experience its delightful and distinctive food and drink. One of the influencing factors of Scottish cuisine is the countries huge resources of fish, game, dairy and vegetables. Many of the countries unique dishes are made by very simplistic methods and do not incorporate spices or other exotic flavourings.

There are several dishes that people will immediately associate with Scotland such as Haggis or shortbread. Those are some of the more famous and stereotypical Scottish dishes, but there are a huge wealth of fabulous Scottish cuisine that visitors each year discover on a Scottish holiday.

Scotch broth (Hotch potch)

Scotch broth is a very filling Scottish soup that is now available all over the world. A scotch broth normally consists of barley wheat, mutton (or chicken depending on what is available) and many root vegetables such as carrots, parsnips and swede. The broth was often eaten as a main course but is now served as a first course and can have its ingredients changed to suit what is available in the larder or fridge. Delicious both hot and cold Scotch broth has stayed very popular during cold climates and it even tastes better when reheated!

Forfar Bridies

A bridie is in similar size and density to a Cornish or Devonshire pasty. One of the main differences between the two is that the Bridie does not contain potatoes and its pastry is quite soft. The inside of the Bridie traditionally contains spiced mince meat and onions. In some shops and cafes you can ascertain the Bridies contents by certain holes made on the top of the pastry. Bridies are often cut into horseshoe shapes; this is the origin of how the pastry came to get its name ‘The brides Meal’.

Stovied Tatties (or Stovies)

Stovied Tatties are a potato dish that was originally created to use up remaining left over’s from large meals. Consisting mainly of Beef, onions and potatoes the dish became very popular throughout the years for not only its practicality but also for its delicious taste.

These are just some of the wonderful meals that you can find in Scotland, to experience more and discover some great cuisine gems visit Scotland whenever you get a chance.

For example, the record in England is 5. Alan Shearer scored 5 in Newcastle United’s 8 – 0 win over Sheffield Wed, and more recently Jermaine Defoe got 5 in Spurs 9-1 humping of Wigan.

What is the Scotland record? Who was it? Who did he play for? Who did they beat? What was the final score? And when was it?
