Question by kollydogg: why do certain people in Irvine Scotland consume so much vodka?
I recently read that many natives of Ayrshire Irvine Scotland consume so much vodka. Even the old women and younger people drink loads and loads of vodka on a regular basis? I don’t think that is bad or negative but just wonder why it’s so popular in that area?

My chosen answer:

Answer by boomboy

Question posed by Angie: Can anyone tell me if a wooden wimbar golf club is worth anything,1920s,i think.thanks?
I done some research and it was made in scotland. In 1920.

Most comprehensive answer:

Answer by Ron The Independent
I really don’t think it’s worth anything to anyone other than a museum. Try contacting http://www.britishgolfmuseum.co.uk/index.html because they might pay for it, because after all, it’s a piece of their history. But I really can’t tell because it could be worth more if it was in good condition, made by a special club maker, stuff that only historians would know about ;)

But here’s an email address if you want to send them an email about a potential purchase

Christmas is commercialised here. Christmas for most scots is getting deeper and deeper into debt to buy presents. Also getting drunk is another big “tradition”

Adventure Golf – Scotland

Watch the video below and then please leave a comment to let we know what you thought about it.

Host Ian Cross travels to the ultimate golfers’ destination – a country renowned for its beauty, independent spirit and, best of all, its hundreds of golf courses – Scotland. He starts his journey at Gleneagles, a resort hotel that’s been on the list of places to go for the rich and famous for the last 80 years. Ian plays the Kings Course, described as the best northern course in the world, with the local pro Dave Brown. Missing out on the opportunity to bag his first eagle, Ian still finds himself wowed by the beauty of the course – not to mention its toughness! Although golf is what most people come to Gleneagles for, there are plenty of other outdoor activities to get stuck into. Ian discovers he’s a dab hand on the shooting range, before trying a spot of off-roading; unfortunately, his clutch control isn’t up to the standard of his shooting! Next stop is Edinburgh, Scotland’s vibrant capital. A must see is the Royal Yacht Britannia at the historic Leith docks – decommissioned in 1997, it really is the last word in luxury travel. On the outskirts of the city is Musselburgh, known as the oldest continually played golf course in the world; Mary Queen of Scots is reputed to have played here as early as 1667. Ian plays this short nine-hole course with Lionel Freeman, secretary of the Musselburgh Golf Club, who lets him play on old style hickory clubs. He also resists the temptation to stop off at the pub on the fourth hole, Mrs Foreman’s, which occasionally opens a window

Question by That Redneck: Family History Help, Finding Scottish Clan?
I’d like to get some help from some people more skilled in finding my Scottish clan then myself. I’m a McAbee. I’ve saw once or twice that McAbees are under the McPhees. So I’d like to know if that is true. Are the McAbees under the McPhees (Yes I know the McPhee’s are under the MacFie clan)?

Top answer:

Answer by Joyce B
All the McAbee immigrants I could find were from Ireland.

The name has also been in the US since the 18th century.

Scottish history
by RCAHMS

Question posed by SABRES FAN: How are relations between the Scottish and Irish?
What is the history between Irish and Scottish citizens as well as those between the immigrants in America? Preferably their relationship during the 1980′s.

The best answer:

Answer by Xx.Chu.xX
Well, Scottish and Irish people seem to get along good together, far better than relations between England and Scotland (wouldn’t be hard I guess!) Many Irish people came to Scotland during the famine and found work here. While many scottish people move over to Ireland now because they have family there etc. I’m not too sure about the American immigrants, as I’m only speaking from my personal experience and I wasn’t around back then. Overall Scotland and Ireland have never had terribley bad relations, nor overly friendly relations. I guess each country just accept each other.

What to Wear When Golfing (Rain)?

golf in Scotland
by orudge

A question asked by Olly: What to wear when golfing (Rain)?
OK, I’m playing golf in two weeks time in a week-long lads week in Scotland basically golfing all day and drinking all night with out the fiance.

I haven’t played golf in the rain before, and it’s going to be raining most days we are there.

What do you recommend, I don’t want to be too warm, in a load of layers, but I also don’t want to be freezing.

I was thinking – Nike Undershirt – Nike Polo – Nike Waterproof. do you reckon this will be good enough?

Thank You.

The No 1 answer:

Answer by adrizzock
As long as you have a warm, yet breathable base layer and something that is 100% waterproof on the outer layer, you’ll be good. Make sure to get some good dry socks and make sure your shoes are still water repellent. Lastly, and this may sound dumb….invest in a waterproof baseball style cap or a bucket hat…you’ll thank me later. Have fun!
