Highland Clearance. Most were left with no where to go. Most Imagrated to Australia, Canada, and America.
What year was the Highland Clearance?
This ignominious period in Scottish history commenced in the 1720′s and continued into the nineteenth century. The year 1807 was particularly significant in the obscene and brutal removal of residents from their homes,at the behest of the Duke and Duchess of Sutherland -real name Stafford – in the disguise of progress, replacing the population with sheep.
When the people resisted, their homes were burnt .
