My brother lives in the US and met a girl in Italy 4 years ago. They talked everyday mostly in emails, web cam, and phone calls using a long distance phone card, and he visited her 2x in one year, then they got married. They live in the US now. So yeah, it is hard but can definitely happen. Good luck
