How is the weather in Scotland and Ireland around middle april?

Linda asked:

If we take a cruise to Ireland, Scotland, and England the 2nd week of April, what kind of weather should we expect? The ports to visit include: Cork, Brest Edinburgh, Inverness, Belfast, Dublin. Thank you so much for your help.

In April the weather is generally very unpredictable, it can be bright and sunny one minute, and then the sky will darken with heavy rain showers and hail. And then the sun comes back out again! Last year we actually had a week of really warm sunshine in April (it felt like summertime!), so you may get lucky… But do bring a warm coat because its usually cool at this time of year.

I expect it will be raining, it rains all of April mostly :) so if you like rain you’ll be happy!

Rainy. Very rainy. Especially in Ireland.

I remember that, in Ireland , it was also a very strange sort of rain…the sky would be almost perfectly clear, then it would suddenly start to POUR. You could get totally soaked just walking a couple of blocks, but then the sun would come out in about 5-10 minutes and it would be sunny again for 15 more before it started to cloud up and pour again.

    Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

It would be best to have a jacket near to you anytime you will be outside for more than a few minutes, even if the day seems sunny at first.

That time of year can be OK but maybe a bit cold at times. Cork, Inverness, Edinburgh, Belfast and Dublin are all great places to visit…I know you’ll enjoy yourself.

Not sure about Scotland, but Ireland can have the same weather all year round. No use bringing an umbrella, the wind will break it anyway.

The weather can change so much everyday never mind the month! But hopefully for April you could expect sunny spells but i would plan for rain and low temperature.

Like any other time of year, dear. Completely unpredictable.

Bring layers, and make sure your topmost layer is waterproof, and bring good shoes for walking through wet conditions.

The Irish weather is unbelievably unpredictable, it shouldn’t be overly cold in April but there may well be rain, on the other side, the weather could be fantastic, stranger things have happened!
whatever the weather, I hope you have a great trip and enjoy your time here =]
