How much do Americans know about Scotland?
July 4th, 2009 | by admin |Rebecca R asked:
I was just wondering, as last summer I went on holiday with a group of Scottish girls to Switzerland, and we meet some American teens.
They asked questions like “So is Scotland a town in England?” (answer:NO)
“OMG your English is so good!”(english is the spoken language in Scotland)
“Do you wear kilts all the time?” (answer:NO)

I was just wondering if these thoughts were widespread throughout America?
What do you think of Scotland and the Scots? There’s some pretty bad steriotyping of the Scottish, but it’s a great place to live, I love it.

They are generally stupid and ignorant. Look at famous liars; Hillarious Clinton, George Bush *******… I live in England and when I went to Scotland, the people were friendly, beautiful landscape, and I loved those things called Elgin Tablets.

Some americans are very stupid, I’ve been to Scotland, it’s a beautiful land. I love the country side. I got to stay in a hostel and stuff. I’ve always known that it’s not a city, for one, and I knew they speak english, so you just met some stupid americans. There are a lot of them, trust me. I wouldn’t mind moving there, but it’s a little cold for me.

Alike people from any nationality or about any country
Some Americans would only know what they saw in the movie brave heart whilst a few might know more the most of the people that live there.
Its like me asking how much do Scottish people know about Brazil.

Honestly, I’m an American and I don’t know much about Scotland at all. The photos show a beautiful land with a lot of history, and the movies…well, we all know what the movies show…but really, CNN and Fox News don’t have a whole lot to say about Scotland…and we don’t hear much about it as gradeschoolers…..so, no, sorry, Americans don’t know much about Scotland.
) That was one terrible run-on sentence….but I’m up WAAAAAY past my bedtime (it’s 0600 here and I’m on the end of a 12 hour shift…).
I’d love to hear something interesting about Scotland, if you wanted to share it.
Hail.
