Airostle asked:
Does anyone know where the last name of Chipchase comes from?. I don’t know if it’s Scottish, Irish, or English. But I know theres a castle in Newcastle. Any more information would be grateful.

Do a search on the web, everyone has a cousin that they haven’t seen in years who has done some of the research already. in a search engine type in
(your last name)+genealogy
you can also try
(your last name)+family
Good Luck
The name is definitely English.
Couldn’t find a meaning but Chase means “woods particularly suitable for hunting” from the Old French word chaceur “hunter”.
The 1880 / 1881 census
has a bunch of them from England. The birthplace is in and you can click on people to see where their parents were born. The women took their husband’s name, so look at the details of men born before 1840; THEIR fathers were born 20 – 60 years before then. You should be able to see birthplaces of men born in the late 1700′s. You’ll see lots of migration.
Here is a Canadian one. They asked Ethnicity, not parents’ BP
