The list of possibilities in the Netherlands is huge. There are a huge number of interesting museums in Amsterdam alone. The Rijksmuseum and the van Gogh museum top the list. Take a canal cruise. If you’re there at the right time, the Sail 2010 event will be running in Amsterdam. This is a huge festival featuring boats of all kinds. You definitely should visit the Anne Frank House. Sit in the cafes on Rembrandtplein, Leidseplein or along the canals, see the floating flower market … this barely scratches the surface of possibilities. Artis Zoo is nice for a break.

There are also a lot of easy day trips using the trains or buses. Muiden Castle is nice. Go to Zaanse Schans and/or Kinderdijk to see the windmills. Delft, Gouda, Hoorn, and many other towns are interesting. The cheese market in Alkmaar on Fridays is touristy and crowded, but interesting. Spend a day at the beach at either Scheveningen (den Haag) or Zandvoort. There’s a really interesting outdoor museum in Enkhuizen where old biuildings from around the country have been collected and you can get a feel for life in the past.
