I haven’t played golf in the rain before, and it’s going to be raining most days we are there.
What do you recommend, I don’t want to be too warm, in a load of layers, but I also don’t want to be freezing.
I was thinking – Nike Undershirt – Nike Polo – Nike Waterproof. do you reckon this will be good enough?
Thank You.

As long as you have a warm, yet breathable base layer and something that is 100% waterproof on the outer layer, you’ll be good. Make sure to get some good dry socks and make sure your shoes are still water repellent. Lastly, and this may sound dumb….invest in a waterproof baseball style cap or a bucket hat…you’ll thank me later. Have fun!
That depends on if it’s cold or just raining. If just raining but temperature is tolerable, regular golf wear and a rain suit packed in your bag as needed.
If it’s cold and raining, too many layers is going to trash your game anyway, you could look into ski thermals that are thin and a warm sweater.
Get a quality rain suit, bucket hat, some FootJoy rain gloves, an extra pair of golf shoes (so each has 24 hours to sit and dry out), unbrella, and some fabric waterproofing spray (to spray down your golfbag, especially the seams).
Form-fitting UnderArmor longsleeve shirts work great for retaining heat.
Some suggestions-
Get a pair of rain gloves…Footjoy makes great ones…they’re specifically designed for the rain. I keep mine with me in a sealed sandwich (ziploc) bag. Keep your regular gloves in these as well.
Get a waterproof jacket and pants…look for waterproof (not water resistant), and ideally something with sealed seams. A lot of guys I know use Zero Restrictions (specifically made for golf). I’d also bring two pair of golf shoes…give them a chance to dry out (and in that vein, bring an extra pair of dry socks with you…it’s never nice to have to wear wet socks after your round).
Get a rain cover for your clubs. It will keep them dry in the rain.
Make sure you have an umbrella and a waterproof hat (keep in mind that most of your body heat exits your body through your head).
Personally I swear by Under Armour for their base layer stuff…either way you should try this stuff together so you’re familiar with how it fits and that you can swing with it on. Either way I’d avoid any shirts made out of cotton.
Typically you won’t encounter an all-day rain…it’ll be off-on more often than not so the other trick is to be able to change into and out of your rain gear on the fly.
As for the golf itself…a wet course will play longer (less bounce/roll) obviously and you’ll want to take an extra club (5-iron rather than a 6-iron) more often than not. Just keep the ball in the short grass, tip your caddie well (if applicable), and make sure to have a wee dram or two after your round.
