Every year in August the Edinburgh Festival takes place the roots of which can be traced back to 1947 when the first Edinburgh International Festival was held. Now you will find that this is actually the largest cultural event to take place in the world and is also one of the most popular. We feel it is worth reading a guide to the Edinburgh Festival that we have written if you are considering attending it this year.

As already mentioned above this Festival including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe takes place in August of each year. In 2011 the event will take place between the 5th and 29th August and events take place in various venues around this wonderful and historic city. However when visiting it is highly recommended that you do actually always carry one of the festival venue maps with you at all times. This will enable you to then see where the various performances and shows are taking place around the city much more easily.

Actually getting from one venue to another is very easy and it won’t actually take long to walk between the various ones. However the city does also have a good public transport service and there are plenty of taxis to use. But if you want why not take a ride in one of the many rickshaws that are available for hire although they do tend to cost more to hire than a taxi. But a great way to keep the cost of hiring such vehicles down is to agree the price of the fare first.

So what will you see when you decide to visit the Edinburgh Festival this year?

It doesn’t matter if you have never attended the festival before or have visited it every year there is always going to be something for you to do and see and enjoy. Even though most people think that this particular festival is for adults only then they are completely wrong as there are plenty of things organized for children to enjoy as well.

Most people who are attending this event including those who attend the Edinburgh Fringe Festival will do so to come and watch the comedians. However there are a number of other wonderful things to do and see. Why not consider heading over to Zoo Roxy where you can enjoy everything that the Black Lantern Cabaret has to offer or if you have some time to spare during the day why not attend one of the many workshops taking place.

You do have the option if you wish to purchase tickets for the various events taking place when you arrive in Edinburgh. However we would actually recommend you purchase ones for the shows that are more popular before you go. Unlike other festivals the costs of tickets to events here are very reasonably priced and this year they start from just 6 each. Of course if you want to enjoy several events at the festival then buying a ticket package instead would be a more cost effective option.
