tom c asked:

I am a great admirer of Mr Scargill, he predicted the demise of the British miners by Thatcher in revenge for the downfall of her Government in 1974.

This was not an economical demise, it was a political retaliation, that cost the taxpayer the windfall from the Scottish, fossil fuel fields.

In the courts in 1984 we saw the beginning of the end for all occupational pensions schemes, as the Government planned to take over the miners schemes, again Mr Scargill was proved right, in 1987 the Government introduced ledgislation that would ensure pension schemes could not hold more than 105% of their assets after liabilities.

This would result in a capital gains tax. No No, this would help the goverment remove the cost of the 1984 miners strike, and the miners redundancy payments from the miners surpluses.

To help this along they awarded British Coal a contributions holiday from 1987 for life, saving enough to pay them off.

Was Mr Scargill right?.

Tom thinks?
